Latest police statement on Aberfeldy incident – man released ‘under investigation’

LW is currently awaiting a statement from the solicitors of the person who was arrested by Tower Hamlets police yesterday in Aberfeldy. We are also examining footage taken at the scene.  In the meantime here is the latest update from the Metropolitan Police  as at 13:08 hrs today. 

“A 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of obstruction of the highway, assaulting police and resisting arrest following an incident in Abbott Road, Tower Hamlets on Tuesday, 9 July has been released under investigation.

Enquiries into the circumstances remain ongoing by officers from the Central East Command Unit.

A full review into the circumstances surrounding this incident was carried out by the Central East Command Unit professional standards team, in liaison with the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards.

Due to fact the man sustained injuries a mandatory referral was made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, who have now declared this to be an independent investigation.

The Met is committed to ensuring the safety and confidence of its communities and will support the investigation throughout.”
