Update on Wapping Lane assault – statement by Metropolitan Police

Further to our news story regarding the assault in Wapping Lane last night here is the official Metropolitan Police statement. We do not have any more details than we have published.

Police were called at around 17:30 hrs on 25 March to a report of a man assaulted and unconscious in Wapping Lane, E1.

Officers attended and found the victim near the junction with Chandler Street suffering head injuries and began administering first aid. The man, aged 50, was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service (LAS).


His injuries were later described as not life threatening.

Two boys – both aged 15  – were arrested not far from the scene on suspicion of GBH and were taken into custody at an east London police station.

Enquiries into the exact circumstances of the incident are ongoing.
