A man was shot and seriously wounded last night in Nelson Street, Whitechapel, E1. Nelson Street runs parallel to Commercial Road between Cavell Street and New Road.
According to a Met Police media statement police were called at 22.34hrs on Tuesday the 19th November 2019 to Nelson Street where they found a male with serious gunshot wounds.
Police officers carried out CPR until ambulance crews took the victim to the Royal London hospital where he remains in a life threatening condition.
The victim has been identified and his family informed.
Section 60 in place
A crime scene is currently in place at Nelson Street and is likely to be in place for the rest of today 20th of November. Officers from Central East CID are on scene and making enquiries alongside the Met’s Homicide Team.
At this time no arrests have been made.
In order to locate weapons and prevent any further incidents of serious violence a Section 60 CJPOA authority was granted early this morning which will stay in place until 1614hrs today 20th November 2019.
A Section 60 order allows the police to carry out stop and search within a specified area as required.

The Met’s Territorial Support Group are carrying out high visibility patrols in the borough to provide visibility and reassurance and deter further incidents.
