Police hunt teenage boy for hammer attack at Poplar bus stop

Tower Hamlets police have released shocking CCTV footage of an incident in Poplar of a teenage boy attacking another with a claw hammer in broad daylight.

The violent attack took place at around 16:10hrs on 4 October 2017 at the bus stop outside Poplar Recreation Ground, East India Dock Road, E14.

According to witnesses a 16-year-old boy was waiting at the bus stop when the suspect approached him with a claw hammer and hit him several times over the head.

The victim was able to get onto the bus where passengers were able to keep the attacker from boarding as he attempted to strike his victim again.

Description of wanted teenager

The suspect then ran off in the direction of Burdett Road with the hammer. He is described as a black teenage boy with short black hair. He was wearing dark trousers and top, black shoes and a distinctive black rucksack with grey edging.

The victim was taken to the Royal London hospital where he received five stitches for the laceration in the back of his head.
