The police are now appealing for any witnesses who saw the attack, the events leading up to it or people running away from the location of the Peri Peri Grill House, 375 Cable Street, E1 to contact them.
“We have made one arrest and continue to build a picture the attack which unfolded,” said DC Megan Bushell from Tower Hamlets CID.
“I would appeal to anyone who saw a confrontation in the area before the attack and anyone who witnessed people running from the scene after the stabbing to come forward. Your information could prove vital to our investigation”
The victim is now recovering in hospital and his wounds are now said to be non life threatening.
“My thoughts are with the young man; a victim of another stabbing in the borough. Local residents on Cable Street have always protested against the opening of the chicken shop,” said Cllr. Rabina Khan (PATH, Shadwell).
“For the last few years a number of residents have raised concerns of suspected drug abuse and ASB around the premises.”
Anyone who witnessed this incident or has information is asked to call Tower Hamlets CID by dialing 101 quoting reference number CAD5861/1JUN, Tweet @MetCC or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
