And of course congratulations to local boy John Biggs who won the mayoral race and led his Labour team to a massive victory across the borough.

Commiserations to all the other candidates and their supporters who worked just as hard as the winners but without the ultimate reward of victory.

LW website finally gets more than two viewers

Load on Love Wapping website on election day.

We think it is only fair to also congratulate the teeny weeny underpowered LW web site which somehow managed to serve up a huge number of page views to those wanting to find out about the latest local election results yesterday.

The election live blog page was viewed more than 24,000 times and so became the most popular page in the entire five year history of LW by a considerable margin. Before yesterday the most popular page had been viewed just over 10,000 times in two years, followed closely by now ex-councillor Oliur Rahman at the bookies of course.

Gulp!

This is probably because LW is now showing up in the Google News search results. Thanks Google!

And last but by no means least a massive thanks to our great friend local photographer and What’s in Wapping publisher Vickie Flores who has provided us with loads of high quality photos throughout the campaign.

More on the elections when we can.

  1. Anil says:

Isn’t it very odd that almost half the electorate in Stepney Green ward voted by postal ballot? It’s very very odd that Oliur Rahman didn’t get re-elected in a seat he has held for 14 years! Something smells very fishy in these results.

    • Mark Baynes says:

I think it is safe to say that the voters of Stepney Green judged Oliur Rahman on his record as a councillor.

  2. Andy Sutcliffe says:

I guess you’re too polite to say, but interesting that the three lowest-rated candidates were the three who couldn’t be ars** to respond to the Love Wapping questionnaire earlier in the election. A Wapping version of Private Eye’s ‘the curse of Gnome’?
