Council finally recycles recycling bags distribution scheme

By on January 10, 2018 in Environment

Borough residents can now collect recycling bags seven days a week from seven locations across Tower Hamlets.

From Monday 15th January, Ideas Stores at Chrisp Street, Watney Road Market, Whitechapel, Bow, Canary Wharf as well as Bethnal Green Library and Cubitt Town Library will hold recycling bags.

Residents will need to show proof of residence to get a roll of bags.

Recycling bags will still be delivered to street properties twice a year.

The change comes after some residents complained that the previous changes to the way recycling bags were distributed were too restrictive and so people gave up trying to recycle.

Part of the reason for the previous change was an attempt by the council to reduce recycling costs as many recycling bags distributed were being misused for general rubbish.
