E1 nightclub to (not) open in Pennington Street, Wapping

By on October 13, 2017 in Pennington Street, Planning

Update 16 October 2017 – Statement by Studio Spaces

“Studio Spaces is continuing with it’s current business model which has been running successfully over the past few years as a photographic studios for commercials, fashion and editorials and an events space, focusing on conferences, weddings and private functions, bringing recognised brands and companies from around the world to Pennington Street.

Studio Spaces is not becoming a full time night club in no way, we have been hosting late night events throughout the last three years as Studio Spaces but have decided to keep all late night events under the brand of E1 London to avoid any confusion and keep the brands separate.
Hope this clears the matter up and we would be happy to have an open day for residents to come into to speak with us.”
Original story below

Studio Spaces at 110 Pennington Street Wapping is turning into a nightclub called E1 and will celebrate with a 27-hour opening party on New Years Eve.

This information only came to light because of a local resident who spotted the press release below on the RA site here. (Thanks Matthew!)

“A new club, E1, is opening in London at the end of this year.

The space, formerly known as Studio Spaces, is located at 110 Pennington Street in Wapping. The former factory will officially open at 9 PM on Sunday, December 31st, launching with a 27-hour party that’ll stretch through to midnight on Tuesday. The lineup is still TBA.

A press release says E1 is the “brainchild of a group of professionals with proven track records in the music and events industry,” while its bookers have years of experience throwing large-scale events in the capital. As well as electronic music shows, the venue will host performances by multidisciplinary artists in a separate events space. The bespoke soundsystem was installed with help from local audio company Sound-Services Ltd.

Events will continue to happen at Studio Spaces until the end of 2017.”

E1. Cheerful, innit?

Needless to say LW has not been sent a press release – but we have asked.

Studio Spaces has been regularly been used for events for some time. The move to convert its premises into a new permanent nightclub in Wapping is an interesting development to say the least.

LW Comment

Did anyone in Wapping have any advance knowledge of this? We will try and find out if local residents, our councillors or the local police were consulted on this.

  1. I manage the recording studio next door and this is news to me.

Thanks very much for letting us know – if you are next door I think it is safe to assume that few other residents or businesses in Pennington Street are aware either. I have asked Yuval Hen of Studio Spaces for a comment for publication on LW to provide us all with more details.
