Maltese investigative journalist and blogger Daphne Caruana Galizia was killed today when a powerful bomb exploded under her car. Her blog ‘Running Commentary‘ which focussed on corruption often attracted more readers than the combined circulation of all the country’s traditional newspapers according to The Guardian.
Daphne led the Panama Papers investigation into corruption in her home state. She had recently been the subject of death threats.
Recent work connected Malta’s prime minister Joseph Muscat and two aides to offshore companies linked to the sale of Maltese passports and payments from the government of Azerbaijan.
Prime minister Muscat has condemned the attack.
