Acid Attacks Advice: Report Remove Rinse

The NHS has published official advice on how to provide first aid after an acid attack – report, remove rinse.

First thing to do is report the incident by dialling 999

Affected clothing should be carefully removed taking care not to spread or splash the acid – or get in on your hands.

Then lots of running water should be used to rinse the acid off the casualty until the emergency services arrive.

You cannot use too much water!

While still rare, the number of attacks using corrosive substances is rising.

Report, remove, rinse.
