Bethnal Green acid attack not motivated by race or religion

Yesterday’s acid attack on two youths in Bethnal Green was not motivated by race or religion according to the Met.

The investigation into the attack is being led by officers from Operation Trident, the MET anti-gang command. Both suspect and victims are Asian.

Acid was thrown into a vehicle by a male causing scarring to the faces and necks of the two occupants at around 7pm last night in Braintree St, E2.

Despite their injuries the two males somehow managed to drive their car to the rear of Bethnal Green Police Station where they were given first aid by both police and London Fire Brigade officers in the form of large amounts of water before London Ambulance Service staff took over.

Tower Hamlets police are keen to get the message out that there have been no race or religiously motivated acid attacks in Tower Hamlets in the last year and only two across the whole of London.
