A group of eight teenagers are believed to have assaulted a single white male just before six pm Saturday evening in Wapping Lane outside St. Peters London Docks church.
It is understood that the police had suspects in custody very soon after the assault.
One of the two main routes through Wapping was cordoned off for several hours as a scenes of crime officer took photographs of the scene and gathered forensic evidence.
One eyewitness said that after the attack they saw a young white male lying on his back by the bus stop opposite Chandler Street bleeding from his face.
Another local resident saw the group of teenagers, not local to Wapping and between 12-14 years old, running away from the scene of the attack and telling each other to get rid of their clothes.
Fortunately they were arrested before they had the chance to do so.
The condition of the victim was not known at the time of publication.
