Convicted fraudster Shahed Ali released from prison after five weeks

By on December 6, 2016 in Crime & Policing, News, Politics

Ex Tower Hamlets First councillor Shahed Ali is back at home with his family today after serving five weeks of the five month sentence he received on 27 October 2016.

Sources say he hardly had time to unpack his toothbrush.

Mr Ali was sentenced to five months in prison at Snaresbrook Crown Court after pleading guilty to Housing Fraud. His jailing caused the recent Whitechapel by-election.

Described as a “corrupt and venal man who will not be missed” by Cllr. Peter Golds, leader of Conservative Group, Tower Hamlets Council, it is not known what his future occupation will be after his prison stint.

A return to Shahed’s previous career in local politics is highly likely. Indeed some consider him now almost over qualified.
