Laughing gas convention in Wapping? Neighbourhood littered with NO2 canisters

By on November 19, 2016 in Crime & Policing, News

Any resident out for an early morning walk in Wapping today would have been disappointed to find our neighbourhood littered with discarded canisters of laughing gas (nitrous oxide) dumped by the usual suspects overnight.

LW set out to photograph the results at various locations and the pictures below show what we found.

We estimate we found between 200 – 300 gas canisters this morning and no doubt there are more throughout Wapping and the borough. This is problem is not confined to Wapping.

Previous observation tells us that all of these canisters will have been consumed by people sitting in their cars who then drive off, presumably under the influence of laughing gas.

Apart from the health hazard all this mess has to be cleared up by the borough’s street sweeping team.  The time spent on doing this is time they could be doing their usual job of keeping our streets clean from the usual rubbish.

This costs the council money and it costs law-abiding residents money at a time when our local authority is trying to recover from the disastrous Rahman administration and savage spending cuts.

This is also a problem across the Highway in Swedenborg Gardens playground along with broken glass from youths drinking vodka and cranberry juice most nights and not using the provided bins. On occasion the police do come out and speak to the youths concerned but no further action is taken. It’s really sad to see our gardens and parks littered this way . It’s unsightly and dangerous for children and animals , and as you say means the borough’s street sweeping team have more work than they need to.
