Local Wapping charity Community Solutions has arranged an opportunity for parents and carers to meet with both Mayor John Biggs and Cllr. Rachael Saunders (Deputy Mayor and Cabinet Member for Education & Children’s Services) to discuss the proposed cuts to Early Years services in the borough.
The meeting will take place at Wapping Children’s Centre at 4pm this Friday 16th September.
The purpose of the meeting is for parents and carers to make it clear to the Mayor and Deputy Mayor that the initial cuts and plans for more cuts are “entirely unacceptable”, according to the campaign.
Council strapped for cash
Getting a meeting with both Mayor Biggs and Deputy Mayor Saunders is an achievement in itself and reflects the importance the Labour administration places on Early Years services – trouble is the Council is strapped for cash.
The council has to make savings of £40 million across all its main services due to the reduction in funding from central government.
Community Solutions has also organised a change.org petition “Reverse the Decision to make cuts to Tower Hamlets Early Years’ Budget” which at the time of publication had gathered just over 300 signatures of the 500 signature target.
So if you value Early Years services in our borough make sure you attend the meeting and get involved with what is going on.
