Wapping swans – only one cygnet this year

By on April 12, 2016 in Swans, Wildlife

It seems that only one of the nine eggs that the Wapping swans laid on their nest has hatched. Sad news that it is we should all consider ourselves lucky we have these lovely animals in our community and make sure we keep an eye out for them.

Thanks to everyone who has not revealed the location of the nest and also refrained from posting photos of the nest on social media.

Here is the one cygnet we do have this year. Let us hope s/he makes it to fly away in a few months time.

This cygnet decided to go for a swim although only a day old. It found a barrier in its way but with a little encouragement from its parent soon hopped over it. It is believed that the Wapping cygnets are some of the first to hatch every year in central London. Wapping, Tower Hamlets, London, E1W.

Out for a bracing swim with mum
