Same faces, same party, same scam

By on May 4, 2015 in News, Tower Hamlets council

It’s business as usual for Tower Hamlets First (THF) as Rabina Khan, a borough Councillor whose election was ‘achieved with the benefit of the corrupt and illegal practices’* stands as an ‘independent’ candidate in the Mayoral election re-run.

It has also come to light that Rabina Khan oversaw the council enquiry into allegations that members of her own political party were posing as Tower Hamlets Homes staff and canvassing for the ex-Mayor.

“We can do politics differently here in Tower Hamlets” statesTower Hamlets First (THF) stalwart Khan on the Rabina Khan’s Mayoral campaign website.

Differently? Isn’t that the problem? That THF ignores the laws of the land and does what it likes.

The Electoral Commission bans Tower Hamlets First from existing as a political party.

THF don’t care  – they simply pick a puppet (Khan) to stand as an ‘independent’. And all the bloc votes that were previously used for the benefit of the ex-Mayor are directed towards the new ‘front person’. Simples.

Rahman and Choudhury are behind Rabina Khan.

Rahman and Choudhury are behind Rabina Khan.

Rabina Khan oversaw Greenbankgate enquiry

Recently LW published the contents of report by Tower Hamlets Council into the issue of women posing as Tower Hamlets Homes staff while campaigning for Mayor Rahman in the 2014 Mayoral campaign.

An exceptionally reliable source has brought to the attention of LW a simple fact.

Cllr. Rabina Khan was the THF Cabinet member for Housing & Development during the time of the events of ‘Greenbankgate’ and the subsequent enquiry.

Seems that Cllr. Rabina Khan oversaw the enquiry into allegations that Tower Hamlets Homes staff (that she was responsible for) or council staff were using their position to canvas for Tower Hamlets First – the political party of which she was a member – or that members of Tower Hamlets First or their volunteers were impersonating THH personnel.

To put it simply Cllr. Khan was responsible for overseeing an enquiry into possible wrongdoings by her own political party and or members of the council housing functions for which she had corporate responsibility.

And we have been wondering why there was never any real conclusion or findings from the numerous reports on Greenbankgate published on LW or indeed the official police complaint lodged last year.

Now we know.

By hook or by crook

LW knew that the three ladies who paid us a visit were not Tower Hamlets Homes staff but were clearly part of the Tower Hamlets First political machine that was saturating the streets of the borough to elect Rahman by hook or by crook.

But to this day it has not been confirmed by anyone else. No wonder.

There is only one person who can sort this out.

An open letter to Eric Pickles

Monday 4th May 2015

Dear Mr Pickles

I write to you as an individual citizen and resident of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets with regard to Cllr. Rabina Khan standing in the re-run of the Tower Hamlets Mayoral election of May 2014 to be held in June 2015.

In the recent judgement delivered by Justice Mawrey in the challenge to the result of the 2014 Mayoral election he stated (para 635) that:

“From those decisions, particularly the decisions above on the issue of general corruption under s.164, it follows that the court will have to report that ‘corrupt practices have extensively prevailed at the election in the area of the authority for which the election was held.’ Given the nature of THF as a ‘party’ and the reality of its control by Mr Rahman, this means that the election of all THF Councillors must be taken to have been achieved with the benefit of the corrupt and illegal practices found by this judgment to have been committed.“

I have already raised with the Electoral Commission the issue of how 17 Tower Hamlets councillors can be allowed to remain in their posts gained with the benefit of corrupt and illegal practices and understand that this matter can only be addressed by yourself.

It now seems that one of these Councillors, Rabina Khan, is standing as an ‘independent’ candidate in the Mayoral election re-run.

I and many others have no doubt that Rabina Khan will, if elected, perpetuate all the corrupt practises that have recently become public.

I also have no doubt that if the Electoral Commission had not removed Tower Hamlets First from the register of political parties she would be standing under the Tower Hamlets banner.

In her case the term ‘independent’ is merely a flag of political convenience and nothing more.

We are being taken for fools.

In November 2013 and January 2014 I personally experienced the fraudulent electoral practises of Tower Hamlets First and have been reporting on this issue on my ‘Love Wapping’ blog (‘Greenbankgate’) since then.

To this day I have seen no official report that explains this issue to me satisfactorily.

Today it has been pointed out to me that Cllr. Khan was the Tower Hamlets Council Cabinet member for Housing & Development during the time of the events of ‘Greenbankgate’ and the subsequent enquiry and as such Cllr. Khan oversaw the enquiry into these allegations.

To put it simply Cllr. Khan was responsible for overseeing an enquiry into possible wrongdoings by her own political party and or members of the council housing functions for which she had corporate responsibility.

In the light of the above I would be grateful if you could tell myself and the other borough residents if it is within your powers to prevent Cllr. Khan from standing in the 2015 Mayoral Election and if so will you act on this?

Yours sincerely,

Mark Baynes

Very interesting points, and what I do not understand is if the para 635 of judgement is correctly written and if I am not misunderstood, than surely, all Cllrs of Rahman should be removed from office with immediate effect, and further a criminal investigation by the Met is well overdue.

Unfortunately, I know some of Rahman’s Cllrs as I was a candidate in 2010 for a party which Rahman is heavy supported by. My experience of his Cllrs has put me of for life in politics.
Let me know if you need some of their names and how they obtained their votes in 2010 election

Now this makes me think of few things; 1 judgement is biased 2. Judge Mawrey QC finding is wrongful and subject to judicial review whereby Mr Rahman may be able to defend his corrupt reputation. etc, etc

I agree it is a little odd, bottom line is that if the other THF ‘councillors’ had been named in the electoral petition Justice Mawrey could have meted out the same punishment as he did to Rahman and that other bloke, but they weren’t so he couldn’t. I suggest reading some more of the judgement on the other posts. It seems to be a legal first.

Would be very interested in your information regarding the 2010 election, please email me via the contact page or hello@lovewapping.org

Totally support this letter. Many of us witnessed at last Thursday’s Defend Tower Hamlets Meeting at the Water Lilly, how the innocent people of Tower Hamlets got manipulated by THF race and Islamaphobia card. It is disgusting how the TH residents are being used by these mediocre politicians to further their own political egos. It is time the culture of feudalIsm and nepotism is stopped in TH. We cannot allow Rabina Khan and her cronies including her husband Cllr Aminur Khan to manhandle millions of pounds of public funds when they were part of an administration that practised corruption and nepotism. In my opinion no election should take place until the TH residents are educated on governance rules and reminded of their rights and responsibilities as a British Citizen first and foremost in executing their liberty to vote to elect a leader of Tower Hamlets and not a “puppet”. At the DTHD meeting she insisted that she was not a “puppet” of Luthfur Rahman but she contradicted herself by stating repeatedly “this is the reason why I’m here today, he believed I would be a good counsellor” pointing to Luthfur Rahman. She continued “I wish I wasn’t here, I wish I wasn’t here at the back of this man’s success”. If she gets elected, it will be a vote for Luthfur Rahman, it will be a vote to seek justice for him through the ballot box rather than through the courts. It is the Bangladeshi community who are vulnerable and at loss here. They need support from the administration and not condemnation for the failure of others. It is then, you will be able to defeat feudalism and the politics of “racism” and “islamophobia” that is driving the likes of people like Rabina Khan to take over Tower Hamlets in Bangladeshi Awami League v BNP style of politics. This is your chance to save the most vulnerable community from such abuse.

This is surely not honest politics, there must be something done to make us,the people, trust in the way things are done in tower hamlets, all this has done is made me,feel like I’m now in a backward corrupt area

  4. Gloria Thienel says:

Well done for keeping the public up to date on this matter. She needs stopping is just a mouthpiece for these two. They will be running the borough and cdoing exactly what the like.

The good people of Tower Hamlets need protecting from these people.
