At long last the wait is – almost – over. This Thursday 23rd April the Election Commissioner Richard Mawrey QC will give his verdict on the petition brought to challenge the result of the May 2014 Mayoral Election in Tower Hamlets.
Like the Lutfur Rahman administration itself the result will polarise opinion across the borough.
If it is found that the May 2014 election was a model of the democratic process in action then Mayor Lutfur and Cllr. Alibor Choudhury can continue to run Tower Hamlets as they see fit.
If it is judged that the election was flawed then Mayor Lutfur Rahman and Cllr. Alibor Choudhury will become plain Lutfur Rahman and Alibor Choudhury and it would seem likely that Westminster will take direct control of Tower Hamlets.
Or of course some mixture of the above – this is Tower Hamlets after all.
