So. Tower Hamlets now has an ex-Mayor and has taken the first step towards some semblance of normality. You know the whole democracy and rule of law thing.
But four very brave individuals still need your help. Cash – and lots of it. (No, there are no Council grants for this sort of thing…)
Get yer coat Lutfur
The Election Petitioners Andy Erlam, Angela Moffat, Azmal Husain and Debbie Simmone put everything on the line to fund the hearing that concluded with the removal of Lutfur Rahman and Alibor Choudhury from public office on Thursday.
Only catch being that it cost around £1,000,000 to do so.
Or £250,000 for each petitioner.
did not do this for themselves – they did it for you and the borough of Tower Hamlets and democracy.
I have met the petitioners and have been impressed by the courage and calm manner.
So now Andy, Angela, Azmal and Debbie have done you a service it’s time for you to show your appreciation and donate by clicking the Big Red Button above.
Yes the issue of who pays for costs has yet to be fully decided but it is morally wrong if any one of the petitioners is left with any debt for helping the rest of us.
A change in the law
As a result of the judgement on Thursday there is the possibility the law may be changed so that private individuals do not have to take this risk again.
But Andy, Angela, Azmal and Debbie are still liable for £1,000,000
If you like Love Wapping and have been reading the stories about corruption in Tower Hamlets on this site then help the petitioners.
So donate now.
Or he might just come back…. And you wouldn’t want that would you?
