By on January 18, 2015 in Wildlife

Next weekend 24-25 January is the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch and this year it would be great to give Wapping’s wild birds the attention they deserve.

All you need to do is spend an hour counting the birds in your garden or other green space. That’s it!

Mr Burns the Grey Heron is ready, the only question is are you?

Actually Mr Burns doesn’t give a stuff, he just wants to eat fish, but you get the idea.

To take part all you need to do is go to the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch site and register, watch and record the birds near you for an hour then submit your results either online or by mail.

This event has been running since 1979 and is an essential way to monitor trends, understand how our birds are doing and help them out.

To make sure you get the most from the day get some bird food sorted! Lots of information on the RSPB site.

You can see the results from previous years here.

And to get you started here are some photos of birds easily spotted in Wapping – you just have to look!
