At approximately 23.20 hours the MPS helicopter could be seen hovering over the Thames just west of the MPS Marine Unit’s Wapping base. The high powered search light of the helicopter illuminated the scene as marine units dragged the casualty from the water.

MPS shore units were present on both sides of the river during the incident.

Only a few minutes later MPS Marine Unit and Tower RNLI personnel had rescued the man from the icy water and could be seen to guide him into the warmth and safety of the MPS Marine Unit office.

No further details are known of the incident but all that matters is that the gentlemen is alive thanks to the outstanding work of our emergency services.

I watched this incident from my flat window in Wapping, which is at the same angle to the police pier as the photo that was taken, who took the photo?
