Lots going on in Wapping this summer, here are some of the events.

Wapping Summer Shindig

Where: Wapping Green

When: Saturday 21st June 2014 11am-8pm (next weekend!)

What: History Walk by the great Ray Newton, dance, music, raffle, stalls, cartoon workshop, jewellery making, Marine Police Unit museum open all day.

St Patrick’s Summer Fayre Spectacular

Where: St. Patricks’s Old School & Playground, Greenbank, Wapping, E1W 2PH

When: Sunday 29th June 11am until 4pm

What: Food stalls, BBQ, bar, cake stall, sweet stall, Bric-a-brac, Toy stall, books, creative workshop, children’s activities, face painting, veg sale, Kitchen Garden Tour. Also includes St. Patrick’s Artists Open Studios.

Whopping Rainbow Run

Where:  Wapping

When: 19.00 3 July 2014

What:  There is a 10k and 5k route, both of which are professionally mapped out and mainly flat. Your entry fee includes chip timing, a medal and a t-shirt. There will be fun activities for everyone to enjoy before and after the run, including refreshments and some special guests!

To sign up for the 10k we ask for a £19 registration fee, for the 5k a £17 registration fee. We also ask for a suggested sponsorship of £50 per person and you will receive a brightly coloured Rainbow Trust t-shirt, a fundraising manual, sponsor forms and more to help you! You can sign up and fundraise as an individual or as a team, more details on this will be sent to you when you are registered.

Wapping Mini Marathon

Where: Shadwell Basin

When: 5th July 2014, from 1.30-3.30

What: The Mini Marathon is an event to support the charity Community Solutions, which supports events and projects in the Tower Hamlets’ borough.  You can walk/run/skip/use a wheelchair/push a pram around the basin for 1.6, 3 or 5km.

There is a registration fee of £5 for children, £10 for an adult, or £15 for a family. There are two platforms that people can raise money for – the Trumpers Jumpers Classes, which are the dance, exercise & movement sessions for 0-5 currently delivered to 5 children’s centres in the Tower Hamlets’ borough, or the Equality platform, which is developing and delivering an equality kite mark programme, the focus points for which are; language, gender, disability, ethnicity, age, dependents, financial, educational, political, religious, sexual preference & charitable.

This is an opportunity to get some exercise, have some fun and raise some money for good causes in your local area and further afield.

Go Green On The Green Recycling Fair For Health & Wellbeing

Where: Wapping Green

When: 12th July, 2014 from 10am-4pm

What:  The Recycling Fair is on aims to bring local businesses, community projects, and individuals’ Bring and Buy stalls together in a sociable celebration of the local community.

    What a splendid turnout it was! A great community spirited event…and of course the weather helped. What a shame there wasn’t the same support and turnout for Hermitage School’s 25th.

      Yes it was a good turnout and it would be nice if every community event was as successful. But then the planning for Shindig 2015 is probably starting tomorrow. And of course corporate sponsorship is a big help. And very efficient leaflet drops. And tireless staff…
